Overview of Pre-K 4
Purposeful Design Bible Curriculum: Bible lessons are taught throughout each day. The Bible lessons include familiar Bible stories with an emphasis on God’s characteristics and are incorporated in all activities throughout the day. Students also learn Bible verses and the importance of prayer.
Developmental Play: Students are involved in guided centers in the following areas: home living, variety of blocks, transportation, small manipulatives, puzzles, science, and water play.
Handwriting Without Tears: This hands-on curriculum develops body awareness and good habits for school readiness that include language development skills, fine motor skills, and social skills. The focus in 4K is properly writing uppercase letters using chalk boards, magnet boards and work book practice.
Frog Street Press: The “Sing and Read” Alphabet curriculum reinforces letter recognition, phonemic awareness, songs, puppets and activities to promote reading readiness in a fun learning environment.
Step Up Math: This Frog Street Press curriculum that teaches Numbers and Operations, Geometry, Measurement, Data Analysis and early Algebra with fun, hands-on activities.
Social Studies/Science: Science is woven throughout our curriculum as the preschooler questions why, when, what, where and how with respect to the world God has created. Social studies units include a variety of seasonal topics.
Story Time: Books are read two to three times a day to the students that helps build a love for learning and focus on the letter or unit of the week. Once a month the students go to Library for a story time with the Librarian.
Art: Creative reinforcement activities are coordinated with letter recognition, Bible lesson, unit studies, and/or math concepts.
Specials: Students in the 4K Program attend Specials daily that include Spanish, Computer, PE, Music, and Art.
Recess: Supervised free play on the playground is scheduled twice a day.
STEAM Preschool: is a progressive, ground-breaking program that uses the STEAM concepts (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) in all areas of the curriculum. This includes emphasis in the cognitive, physical, and social-emotional domains of development. We infuse our daily schedule with hands-on opportunities to build on the natural curiosity of all children. Through inquiry-driven activities, the children can explore and discover the world around them while learning literacy, problem solving skills, and collaboration techniques. The children will learn using critical thinking, creativity, and innovation.
Science-knowledge about or study of the natural world based on facts learned through experiments and observation.
Technology-the use of science in industry, engineering, etc., to invent useful things or to solve problems.
Arts-something that is created with imagination and skill and that is beautiful or that expresses important ideas or feelings.
Engineering-the work of designing and creating large structures (such as roads and bridges) or new products or systems by using scientific methods.
Mathematics-the science of numbers, quantities, and shapes and the relations between them.
