Learning Plan for 2020 - 2021

Scofield Christian School safely resumed on-campus teaching on August 24, 2020. While this school year has been unlike anything we've ever experienced, we remain committed to a safe, joyful, nurturing place for our students. We continue to balance hard work and academic growth with plenty of opportunities for friendships and fun each day. We remain committed to protecting our Christian school in Lake Highlands and the students and teachers that walk our halls.

We will continue to follow guidelines set by the Texas Department of Health and Human Services, Dallas County Health Department, and the directives of the Centers for Disease Control when making operational decisions, promising timely communication and transparency with our Scofield families if plans evolve and change at any time.

Core Commitments

  • The safety of our students, teachers, staff, and families are our priority.

  • We will maximize on-campus space and in-person learning and teaching, provided we can do so responsibly and safely. We are committed to providing a distance learning option for any families with health concerns or those who choose to learn remotely this school year.

  • Our administrators and faculty are committed to extensive curriculum and professional training on best practices for supporting students during these unprecedented times.

  • Regardless of any scenario, our efforts will remain driven by our mission and our Portrait of a Graduate:

Our Guidelines

Office:

  • Parents are asked to limit coming into the school only for essential business and should wear a mask and social distance (e.g., stand six feet apart).

  • Please utilize email to communicate as much as possible.

Building & Classrooms:

  • Classes will be small and self-contained. Each class will be considered a family unit. Interaction between classes will be minimized.

  • Students will have clear dividers on desks or tables and will not share any devices, utensils, or supplies. Preschool classes will have clear dividers between centers.

  • If students are close to the teacher or other classmates without a clear protector, they will need to wear masks.

  • Masks will be required in the hallways.

  • Classes will have designated restrooms.

  • Students will not use the water fountains and must bring a water bottle. They will use classroom or hallway fountains to refill it.

  • Students, teachers, and staff will wash hands frequently and will use sanitizer when water is not easily accessible.

  • Center materials will be disinfected between use.

  • Heavily used/touched surfaces will be sanitized throughout the day.

  • Outside equipment will be sanitized daily.

  • Specialized HEPA air filters for the new air conditioning system.

  • HVAC purification filters will be used.

 Lunch

  • School House Fare will continue delivering pre-packaged lunches.  Lunch will be in classrooms.

  • Parents may drop off individually wrapped treats for birthdays and other authorized celebrations, but they will not be allowed to join their child for lunch.

Health Checks

  • Parents are asked to do daily checks of their child(ren) before coming to school. Please self-report fever or other symptoms of COVID-19. Please self-report your child’s or anyone in your immediate family’s exposure to anyone with COVID-19.  Notify our office immediately.

  • Teachers/staff will take their own temperature daily and self-report fever, symptoms, or exposure to COVID-19.

  • Students’ temperatures will be taken periodically.

  • If any student has a fever or symptoms of illness during the day, they will be isolated, and parents must retrieve them immediately. We ask all parents to make sure they can retrieve their sick child within 45 minutes of a call. If a parent cannot pick up on a particular day, they must have a designated backup person on the approved pick-up list in the FACTS family portal.

  • If a student has been exposed to a person who has tested positive for COVID-19, the student will be asked to stay home, learn virtually, and quarantine for 14 days from the most recent contact. They may not come back to the classroom until they have completed the 14-day quarantine and have no symptoms.

  • If a member of a student’s immediate family has been exposed to a person who has tested positive for COVID-19, please notify our office. That student may come to school as long as they have no symptoms, but please continue to monitor their health closely.

  • If a student or teacher is diagnosed with COVID-19, the class will close to disinfect.  We will determine based on student exposure those who need to quarantine for 14 days.

  • In accordance with state and local laws and regulations, school administrators will notify local health officials, staff, and families immediately of any case of COVID-19 while maintaining confidentiality.

  • Any area that was heavily used by a person that has tested positive for COVID-19 will be closed, students notified, and thorough cleaning will be performed.

  • These procedures are based on CDC and other state and local guidelines and will be implemented in accordance with those guidelines. Because of the potential for rapidly changing circumstances, Scofield Christian School's leadership reserves the right to amend or supplement these protocols due to CDC changes or other extenuating circumstances.
